We also have a number of visiting professors from all over the world who bring an international perspective to our teaching.

Time Required to Complete your Degree

Because Australia (and most other countries outside of the USA) does not require the 2 years of General Education (you go straight to your major right out of 12th grade), you can complete your Bachelors degree in as little as 2 years (or law in just under 3 years or medicine in just under 5 years). Also, Bond is a year round school (other Australian universities take 3 years to complete a Bachelors Degree).

This means completing your degree in half the time for half the cost. And the good news, under the Free Trade Agreement between the USA and Australia, a 2 year degree from Australia is equivalent to a 4 year degree from the USA.

Completing an Bachelors Degree in this time frame provides some serious advantages to your career including a 2 year head start on earning an income and accelerated career development. Of course, not paying an additional 2 years of tuition and living expenses provides significant financial benefit.

Semester Dates

Bond has 3 intakes per year - September, January and May. To see the exact dates, refer to About Bond | Semester Dates.

Student & Work Visa

As when traveling to many countries, you need to seek permission from that country to stay for extended periods of time. Accordingly, you will require a student visa to study at Bond. A Student Visa may only be applied for once you are accepted to study at Bond University and you have received your Confirmation of Enrollment. Don't sweat it though. We guide you through this process and make it pain free. It can take up to 6 weeks (but is often much shorter) to get your Visa so getting your application to us ASAP means we can get everything done in time.

Your student visa also permits you to work in Australia (once you have commenced your program at Bond) up to 20 hours per week.

The visa will allow you to enter Australia 3 months before your program begins and will expire 2 months after your program is complete.

JOBS & INTERNSHIPS while studying

There are resources on campus (Career Development Centre) and off campus (including www.Seek.com.au and  www.GoldCoast.com.au ) for finding jobs or unpaid jobs (internships) whilst studying on the Gold Coast. There are many jobs in hospitality (restaurant, cafe, bar etc) on the Gold Coast so if you have experience in these, you will likely find part time work.

Using your Bond degree In North America

For the USA, there is an arrangement between the Australian Government and the US Government for reciprocal degree recognition. This means a USA degree can be used in Australia, and an Australian university degree can be used in the USA. This arrangement was further reinforced by its inclusion in the 2004 Free Trade Agreement between Australia and the USA. For specialist industries, each state in the USA has it's own requirements and it is worth investigating with the governing body of your specialist profession to learn the additional requirements for foreign degrees.

Accounting
Australia has signed a mutual recognition agreement (MRA) with the United States in regard to accounting degrees. This agreement allows those who graduate with an accounting degree from Australia and complete the CPA program, to apply for employment in 39 US states without any additional requirements.

Law - USA
Graduates with an Australian law qualification who have been admitted to practice in Australia may be eligible to sit for the bar examinations and obtain admission in some American states. Admission in these states is controlled by local state bar associations and the state supreme courts. Information about admission requirements for foreign law degrees is available through the American Bar Association website.

Most foreign educated lawyers seek admission in California or New York and then do an inter-state transfer (if they wish to practice in another state). Bond is already an approved Law Program for the New York State Bar. The rules in these jurisdictions should be examined carefully to determine whether you satisfy the requirements. You should review these regularly as they are subject to change. The Bond Law School has no control over admission rules.

Law - Canada

To practice law in Canada, you will need to complete a Canadian bar admissions course. To be eligible for this course in any of the common law provinces (excluding Quebec), you will need a Certificate of Qualification from the National Accreditation Committee (the ‘NCA’) of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. The certificate will state that you have education and training equivalent to that of a Canadian law graduate. Application is made to the NCA at the end of your degree at Bond. The NCA will review your record and prescribe a number of examinations in Canadian law. There are two ways of taking these examinations. 1. You may seek admission to a Canadian law school for this purpose. 2. You may take ‘challenge exams’ set by the NCA. With a Law degree from Bond, these exams may be as few as 2.

The NCA is now requiring just four Canadian law exams from most Australian graduates: Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Administrative Law and Foundations of Canadian Law. Bond offers classes in 3 of the 4 requirements: Canadian Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and Canadian Administrative Law.

This leaves just one exam to be completed in Canada by Bond University Law graduates. However, we are soon introducing the final class, Foundations of Canadian Law. Once this happens, Canadians will be able to complete all their Canadian law requirements at Bond University.

Bond alumni are presently employed in high profile companies in many countries around the world. Some of the companies that seek Bond students are:

Goldman Sachs - Virgin Group - KPMG  - Accenture  - Warner Brothers - Village Roadshow  - HP Compaq - Sun Micro Systems - Oracle & Cisco Systems   - Credit Suisse First Boston - PriceWaterhouseCoopers  - ANET/Access US Internet Service Provider - Cartwright, Sloboded, Bockelman, Bodowski & Moore - Davis Polk & Wardwell Full Service Beverage - Gagosian Gallery  - Healthtech Rehabilitation Inc - International Telecomm Satellite Org - Jalan Technology - Shearman & Sterling - Sidley & Austin  - Paul Weiss Rifkin Wharton & Garrison

Entry Requirements for North American Students

Each application is assessed on an individual basis. A number of factors, including high school, college studies and work experience (for mature age students) are considered.

USA Students: If you are a high school senior or graduate you need to provide an SAT score of 1650 (for Critical Reading, Math and Writing), or an ACT score greater than 24. Law program (LLB) applicants require an SAT of 2040 or an ACT of 31.

Your high school transcripts will also be required.

If you have started college (and completed at least 1 quarter/semester), we only need your college transcripts and do not need an SAT/ACT or high school transcripts..

Law students are not required to take the LSATs.

Canadian Students: Provincial High School Diploma or Ontario Secondary School Diploma + 5 OAC subjects (minimum 65% average).
