The A-Z of attending Bond University

 

Week 1

 

1. Complete a Personal Profile
By completing this, you are not making any commitment. You are simply providing us with your basic information so that we provide you with additional information specific to your program of choice and desired start date.

2. Complete & Send an Application Form
Bond Application forms are very easy to complete, however, should you need any assistance, we will be glad to guide you with your application. Once the form is completed, you simply pop it in the mail to us in California. Nothing needs to go to Australia.

3. Send your Official Transcripts or SAT/ACT (if required)

If you are applying for study abroad, Grad school or Undergrad transfer (and have therefore attended college already), please order official/certified transcripts from your college and have them mailed direct to us in California. Transcripts must be official and are void if the envelope is opened.

If you are applying for an Undergraduate program as a high school senior or graduate, we need your high school transcripts (mailed to us in California) and your SAT or ACT score (which can be sent to us via the College Board web site using our Designated Institution Code of  5345)

 

 

4. Academic Reference (Study Abroad only)

Please have a Professor or Academic Advisor write a short reference in support of you studying abroad at Bond University Australia. They may choose to do this in email form sent directly to us or in letter form mailed to us.

Undergraduate and Graduate applicants do not require this unless specified on the Application for certain programs.

 

 

5. Application Processing

Once we have your application and supporting documents, we will process it immediately and should have a response for you in about 2-4 weeks.

 

 

Week 3

 

6. Receive Letter of Offer (if you are accepted)
If you are accepted, you will be sent a formal Letter of Offer. This will come to you by email. The Letter of Offer will provide complete instructions on how to accept the offer, information regarding housing, information on methods of payment and the university's refund policy. Please read all of this information carefully. Your Letter of Offer will include your unique Student Identification Number (SID).
 


7. Accept Offer and Pay Fees
To accept your offer, you need to complete and return the Response to Offer form (included in your Letter of Offer), together with all required deposits outlined in your Response to Offer form. Payment options and methods (wire, credit card etc) will also be included. If you are using Federal Aid student loan, we will provide separate instructions for how to proceed.

 

 

8. Receive Confirmation of Enrolment (COE)

Once we receive Response to Offer form and your required fee payment is made, you will be sent a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). You are now admitted to the program and can proceed to the next steps.

 

 

Week 4

9. Travel Planning
No need to pay for any flights just yet but it's a good idea to make a flight reservation with your travel agent or airline.

 

Flights:

United, Qantas, Delta and V Australia (Virgin) are the airlines that fly direct to Australia, but many others fly there via Asia or South Pacific nations. The 2 airports that are close to Bond University are Gold Coast (Code: OOL) and Brisbane International (Code: BNE).


Passport:

Check that you have a current passport that will last for the length of your stay in Australia. If you don't have a Passport, you should apply for one immediately at your local Post Office.

10. Health Insurance
All overseas students studying in Australia are required to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). This is included in the fees you pay to Bond so there is nothing extra you are required to do here. This is compulsory, even if your your health insurance at home covers you while overseas. Also, the OSHC policy covers you while you are in Australia only so any trips outside of Australia during your program will require you to purchase travel insurance (which typically includes medical coverage).

 


11. Apply for Student Visa
You must have your Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) from Bond to apply for your Student Visa. This can be completed on-line using the Australian Immigration Department web site.

Study Abroad students (eg. staying less than 12 months) can complete the application fully online. You will select the visa type "Non-Award" once you get to the Visa web site.

Full degree students also complete the application online. You will select the visa type "Higher Education" once you get to the Visa web site.

The student visa costs A$540 and includes permission to work up to 20 hours per week.

Week 5

12. Receive Student Visa
You should now have received your Student Visa from the Australian Department of Immigration. Approval times are currently 1-3 days.

 

 

Week 6

13. Confirm Travel Arrangements
You can choose to do this at any time before you receive your student Visa, however, some students prefer to wait for their Student Visa to be approved before paying for their flight to Australia.

 

8 weekS before START

14. Housing Reservation
About 8 weeks before your start date, the housing reservation system becomes available online (for on-campus housing). We will email you in advance so you are ready to get in early with your reservation. We will outline the various housing options and will assist you find the best place for you and your budget (on or off campus). On-campus housing is allocated on a first come first serve basis. Some semesters may experience limited space (January and September semesters in particular).

4 WeekS before START

15. Enroll in Classes
We will email you when it's time to enroll in classes where you review your study plan (suggested classes to take) and choose your class schedule (days and times).

 

 

1 week before START

16. Arrive in Australia

Arrive in Australia and be transported to campus or your off-campus apartment/house.



17. Orientation Week
An essential factor in preparing new students for university life is an orientation program called Bond Week which is held in the week prior to the commencement of classes. The program consists of many formal and social activities designed to acquaint new students with their physical, academic and social environment and to welcome them to the University.
